A Valuable New Resource For Rural Communities From Coast to Coast
Funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Federal Office of Rural Health Policy, the new Rural SUD Info Center offers a wealth of evidence-based resources to support the prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts of rural communities.
Contributed to by Three Separate Centers of Excellence
This exciting new clearinghouse comes to you from the three Rural Centers of Excellence on Substance Use Disorders (SUD) funded by the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP). Those three RCOE’s are:
The Rural Center of Excellence on SUD Prevention at the University of Rochester which specializes in enhancing the integration of SUD/OUD into primary care practices and conducting evidence-based stigma reduction workshops at the individual, provider, and community levels.
The Rural Center of Excellence on SUD Treatment at the University of Vermont which specializes in provider training and enhancing access to SUD/OUD services, including medication-assisted treatment and the treatment of co-occurring behavioral health disorders.
The Rural Center of Excellence on SUD Recovery at the Fletcher Group which specializes in researching and providing best-practice technical assistance to expand the quality and capacity of recovery housing as well as the evidence-based services needed for long-term recovery.
Funding and Background
Funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Federal Office of Rural Health Policy, the Rural SUD Info Center serves as a clearinghouse of SUD-related resources for rural communities to support rural service providers, community organizations, and others who are looking to build and strengthen a comprehensive approach to SUD. The Rural Centers of Excellence on SUD were established in 2019 by RCORP, an initiative of HRSA that aims to reduce morbidity and mortality related to SUD in rural areas. As directed by Congress, the three Rural Centers of Excellence worked collaboratively to establish the clearinghouse for rural communities.
What You’ll Find There
The free resources on the website–including webinar recordings and presentations, resource guides, articles, posters, fact sheets, and videos—cover information and best practices related to SUD. They were shaped by the input of rural partners and adapted to address rural community needs. Visitors to the website will find current information and technical assistance opportunities on SUD through a rural lens, including trends and best practices related to interventions, treatment engagement, how to overcome stigma, harm reduction, delivery of support services, medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), and more.
